Report Wed 5th Apr 06

Post by Brad » Wed Apr 05, 2006 7:53 pm

5/4/06
We have been inundated with record rains in the last couple of weeks. Consequently the river/ estuary fishing has been made difficult to fish with the water colour literally turning to a bright brown. Reports however indicate there are a lot of barra heading way up the systems in search of new food, yet we need a few days break of no rain to see the true rewards.

On the reef, locals are very wary of heading out at the moment because the weather is so unpredictable. Charters which have ventured out have found the going slower but say this has been due to the neap tides. Coral trout, stripies and the odd nannygai have been the best results. The approaching full moon and bigger tides will no doubt produce better results.

The town is quiet in the visitor stakes yet this will pick up over Easter and a few more trips will run out to the reef to give a true indication of what is happening out there. The immediate forecast is for more rain but if you look on the positive side this will only assist the fishing ahead when the monsoon trough passes.
