Report 12/6/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Jun 12, 2015 2:54 pm

Understandably it has been slim pickings on the outer reef in the last week due to dire conditions. It has been a consistent barrage of wind with associated rain which presented only a couple of opportunities to hit the water. Skipper Steve of Dragon Lady Charters said they only managed two trips for the week and they were conducted under challenging conditions. Fishing the deeper wider grounds was impossible and they opted to fish close to the reefs for protection. Even then they experienced a bit of difficulty in holding anchor in the blustery conditions. Despite the odds and fishing considerably shallower Steve said they still managed reasonable numbers of coral trout as their main catch along with sweetlip, spangled emperor and stripeys. He said the coral trout weren’t the colossal fish they had been catching recently but they were easily size and there were a few about.
Looking ahead the winds are expected to slowly abate over the weekend and hopefully we’ll be back to a more respectable 15 knot range by the start of next week.
