Report 2/9/15

The past week has been close to perfect as you could get in regards to boating and fishing conditions. The full moon momentarily slowed the fishing down but once this passed proceedings started to fire up once again. The good news is that the weekend forecast has improved considerably from what the bureau first thought and it should be onwards and upwards from this point on.

Dragon Lady Charters recorded a pretty solid week on the fish barring an average day on the full moon. Outside of this they nailed a variety of species which included coral trout, stripies, large mouth nannygai, long nosed emperor, sweetlip, gold spot trevally and quite a few Spanish mackerel on the float. According to the crew they said they couldn’t have asked for better conditions and overall the fishing was steady. The only down fall was a few spots were inundated with big whaler sharks which impeded their efforts and they avoided the general area from that point on. Bookings have been heavy and with a great forecast ahead they said it will be a 7 day a week proposition in the short term.

Saltaire Charters have been out and about and reported similar results. The fishing was harder on the full moon but outside of this they did very well on the large mouth nannygai and caught their quota of Spanish mackerel whilst on the troll. Skipper Damian Colette also agreed it has been a magic time to be working on the water and suspects this trend may be around more often from this point on.

Port Douglas Sportfishing has been covering all bases with some nice mangrove jack being caught up the local creek along with some mid sized trevally and queenfish. The inshore reefs have fished well for legal sized large mouth nannygai to 45cm and they also encountered some good sized fingermark.
