The river is relatively slow but there are plenty of just undersize or just legal flathead on most sandbanks from the mouth to Tumbulgum bridge. Soft plastics and trolled minnows will get a feed but be prepared for the throwbacks. Some nice whiting still around if you put in the work on the bottom of the run-in tide and top the of run out. Piggery, Tumbulgum and Seagulls worthwhile spots but live worms are the only bait. Some big trevally on poppers down around the mouth at night. A few sand crabs in the lakes and muddies in the deeper mangrove channels.
Outside there is still tonnes of current. The odd spotted mackerel and cobia at Palm Beach, big mahi mahi out wide and some yellowfin at the back of the Nine Mile. Some wahoo turning up as well. If you can fish the bottom, there are some nice pearlies out wide but the tide is screaming in close. Put the lures on and have a troll until it slows up. Plenty of bait outside.
A few whiting and dart in the beach gutters.
