Weekly Report 14/3/08

Offshore: Water nice and blue. Samson, Spaniards, amberjacks and squire on the 30-fathom reefs. Snapper on plastics in close. Mackerel pretty scratchy in the bays with only the odd one around. Yellowfin, wahoo and mack tuna around from the Nine Mile out to the 30s. In the canyons a couple of big blue marlin if you’re on for a trip way wide. They’re hooking a few and losing a few on tolled lures, 80lb gear is way better than 50lb.
Beaches: Some bigger tailor to around 3kg down around Black Rock and Seagull Rocks. A few small choppers in the gutters around the Tweed coast.
River: Still a few nice bream on the bottom of the tide around the rock walls. Trevally at night on poppers and live herring. Whiting tapering off but a few nice fish among the smaller ones, the odd jack about for another few weeks yet around the rocky points and bridges. Crabs still getting about. Plenty of blackfish around the Tweed mouth and at Kingscliff but finding good weed is a problem, cabbage worth trying, though.
