Outside there’s hardly been any current so there’s not a great deal of joy, even way out wide. Mackerel are hard, ones and twos if you’re lucky, along with some big barracuda and the odd GT on the poppers.
Nice whiting are starting to push back into the river. Plenty of crabs, try around Stotts Island, Tumbulgum and Cobaki. Jacks and school jew getting into action around Barneys Point, Tumbulgum, Cobaki bridge – all the usual deep holes and rock walls.
Some small tailor down around Cabarita and Hastings Point are about the highlight of the beach catches although there could be some bigger ones at night.
