There are heaps of crabs around in the upper reaches at the moment. If you're after flathead, there are some good specimens being caught around Chinderah and in behind the golf club, and some nice whiting have been coming from around the Anchorage and Cobaki Lakes. Some solid jacks are being caught around the bridges, including Barneys Point and Bulgum.

There are a lot of trevally and a few yellowtail kings around the mouth of the river, and they’re providing great sport on poppers.

Outside anglers have been getting a few mackerel around 9 Mile, and there are still some good snapper coming from Fido Reef.

On the beaches there are a few dart around Kingscliff and also some chopper tailor off the rock wall at Kingscliff.
