Report 11/12/14

Starting in the river, there’s been good numbers of flatties around the mouth. These sneaky predators have been taking lures and live baits fished on sand banks. The mouth has also produced it’s usual serve of rat kingfish and some trevally to straighten out the kinks.
Whiting have made an appearance in anglers’ bags and The Anchorage has been a first choice location, with the Cobaki Lakes and The Piggery also good choices.
Mangrove jacks are really starting to fire in the river, with Tumbulgum Barnys Point bridges accounting for some solid specimens recently. You can also expect jewies to be hanging in the same areas as the jacks, which make for an excellent by-catch!
The crabbers have been having plenty of luck on the sandies in the lower reaches, so don’t forget the pots!

On the beaches, whiting are a good option around Kingscliffe beach around the bowls club and dart are around in reasonable enough numbers to keep beach fishers happy.

Those confident enough to venture outside are crossing paths with snapper around Fidos Reef. Those after a feed have been bagging some tasty pearlies on the 36-fathom mark, however conditions have been a bit marginal lately, so caution is advised if heading outside.
