Report 21/1/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Jan 22, 2015 1:24 pm

Starting in the river, good numbers of jacks have been taken around most bridges and rock walls. They’ve been taken mostly on livies, but some have succumbed to well-worked plastics.
Small flatties have been a regular feature for those fishing Terranora and Cobaki lakes, and the best fishing has taken place at low tide.
In the middle and lower reaches of the river, whiting have been smashing surface lures with gusto!
On the crab front, plenty of muddies have been filling crabbers’ pots in the middle to lower section as well. It seems the rain has got them walking closer to the mouth looking for saltwater.

On the beaches, all the usual bream, dart and tarwhine have been taken on a variety of baits, and this is good fun for the kids.
Small jewies have been taken in reasonable enough numbers along Kingscliffe wall and also around the mouth of the Tweed River.

Out wide, there’s been some good juvenile black marlin giving acrobatic displays to those venturing out towards the 50-fathom line.
Out at the FAD, there’s been plenty of dolphin fish smashing lures, baits and anything else thrown in there.
Spotties have been taken outside, but the numbers have again been patchy.
