Report 26/3/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Mar 26, 2015 1:58 pm

Starting in the river, jacks are still making their presence felt, with many fine specimens being taken around the bridges. Bridges such as Barneys Point, Tumbulgum, Boyds Bay and the back highway bridges have been serving up some good jacks.
Trevally have been smashing bait school around Boyds Bay Bridge as well, but the main stronghold for these guys is around the mouth, along with other predatory species such as kingfish and tailor.
There’s plenty of flathead coming on with the cooling weather, and Fingal Strait, the Golf Club and the Piggery have been firing for flatties. Supercat has produced a few flatties as well.
On the crabbing front, muddies have dominated the catch in the upper reaches.

Along the beaches, tailor and jew have been taken in reasonable numbers along the South Kingscliffe wall.
Further south around Bellinger, the tailor are running hot, with heaps being taken off the beach. Good numbers of tailor can also be found around the Causeway at Finagal. But care should be taken when fishing here, as this area can be quite dangerous.

Outside, jew and Spaniards have made up the bulk of the catch at Fidos reef.
For more Spanish, 9-mile would be a better option, as there’s been plenty taken out there in the last week.
