Report 4/9/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Sep 04, 2015 2:32 pm

Starting out wide, there’s been great numbers of big snapper to 1m out on the 50s, and mixed in have been some stonking pearlies.
Closer in at Fidos and the Mud Hole, mackerel, yellow tail kingfish and squire have been filing anglers’ bags.

Along the beaches, tailor, dart and flatties have been making good appearances, mostly the back beach along Kingscliff. Some big flathead have shown up along the beaches, so now’s a good time to be giving it a go, with either lure or bait.

In the river, blackfish have started to thin out, but some dedicated anglers are started getting some good models from along the rock walls using traditional methods.
Flathead are really moving in. Jupiters Hole and Cobaki Lakes have been hotspots, with plastics and natural baits either live or dead producing the best results.
Jewies are still chewing around the bridges on the turn of the tide. No big jewies have turned up recently, but there should be a few about.
Bass season is now open! The early starters have already been nailing a few in the brackish, but on the warmer days the freshwater has been firing.
