Report 15/1/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Jan 15, 2016 1:40 pm

Starting out wide, there's been plenty of action along the FAD line, with wahoo and a heap of Snanish mackerel coming over the side. There's been some decent Spaniards too, with 8-15kg not uncommon.
The little black marlin are definitely here now, with plenty been reported. Many have been around that 100-200kg mark.

In the estuary, flatties are plentiful up on the flats, and Cobaki lakes is a great spot to concentrate your efforts.
Whiting are almost a sure bet at this time of year, and the sand banks around Stotts Island and the Piggery are a couple of hotspots worth trying at this time of year.
Big muddies are being reported throughout the entirety of the river, but the upper reaches seem to be producing the most consistent results for anglers deploying pots.

Up in the freshwater, Clarrie Hall is giving up a few bass around the edges. The fish haven't been real thick, but there's enough there to scratch the bass itch.

The beaches have been fairly quiet, with only a few few jewies being reported, mosly from the rocks around Hastings Point and Cabarita.
Tailor have been scarce, as there are not many gutters forming along our beaches.
As usual, there's a few dart to be caught around Kingscliff, but nothing to write home about.
