Weekly Report 17/11/06

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says whiting have been reasonably good through North Creek and the main river to above Pimlico Island. A few decent flathead in the lower river with good eating size ones around the ferry. A few crabs up Emigrant Creek and right at the top of North Creek. School jew and trevally have been plying their trade from the ferry to Pimlico Island and some decent big jew have been coming from the walls on hard and soft lures and some fish on livies around the RSL. Beaches are windswept now but there have been whiting, flathead , salmon earlier ain the week with tailor after dark. Naturally, there hasn’t been much offshore activity.
At Evans Head it’s been breezy all week and naturally quite cool on Friday after the cold air went through. Nothing to report from offshore since last weekend when there were some good snapper, kings and samson from out wide and the unconfirmed whispers of some spotted mackerel. Water inshore is now green and murky but there’s the chance of getting out over the weekend if the wind dies back and the swell drops a little. There have been a few blackfish around the walls at times and some decent flathead in the river along with a few whiting. Some very big whiting up the beach on the morning tide if you’re prepared to wait for them and the odd bream around the Broadwater rocks. Evenings should be OK for a jewie for the next few days.
