Weekly Report 1/12/06

Matt at Dave’s Bait Shop says there have been plenty of flathead widespread through the lower reaches of the river. They’re mainly falling to soft plastics over the flats and there have been plenty of eating size fish to 50cm and bigger breeder fish in the deeper water near the drop-offs. Blackfish have made a welcome return around around the walls in Mobbs May and the Prospect Bridge. Quality mud crabs over a kilo at the top of Emigrant and North creeks and up the main river from Wardell upstream. Whiting have been quite good at Pimlico and in North creek with bloodworms and yabbies working. A few good school jew along the Town Reach near the police station and the odd one along the Porpoise Wall as well. Undersized soapies on soft plastics in Emigrant Creek on soft plastics.
No reports form offshore due to the wind.
On the beaches there have been big flathead on the northern side of Flat Rock with the odd good tailor there just on dark. Seven Mile Beach at Lennox has good whiting and the odd nice flathead in the deeper gutters.
Evans Head has been pretty quiet with plenty of wind raising hell. A brisk north-easterly on top of a fair southerly swell on Friday arvo but the bar is deep and was relatively calm this morning No outside reports to speak of but there should be a chance this weekend.
Not much to report from the river apart from a few whiting and small flathead.
The beaches were going OK up towards Broadwater for whiting and bream before the southerly swell closed out but there are some good tides for jewfish coming up so there’s hope.
