Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says whiting have still been pretty fair in North Creek and the main river up to Pimlico. A few flatties but they’re mostly upstream and there have been a few school jew in the deeper holes. Blackfish are the movers this week with quite few in the usual haunts but weed is still a problem and cabbage looks the only option for most. A good run of muddies this week up the top of Emigrant and North creeks.
The walls and headlands have produced some good tailor in the past few mornings and evenings. A few bream and school jew also around the walls and they should keep on as long as the sea is up a bit.
Boats got out this morning for the first time for a while and caught a few mackerel but then the southerly came through.
I haven’t been at Evans all week but this morning there were some mullet poking around the shore break up the beach so it might be worth chasing a jew. Water seems pretty warm. One of about 17kg was caught near the 4WD track last weekend in broad daylight and apparently there ahave been tailor and flathead up around the Broadwater coffee rock. Southerly is gusting to about 20 knots mid-afternoon. With the sea up a little there should be good catches of blackfish from the walls this weekend. Dunno what’s in the river…
