28/10/05 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Oct 28, 2005 10:24 am

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says the whiting are improving from the mouth up to Pimlico with the bigger tides on the next new moon bound to be good. Already quite a few fish around 500g. Flathead around, especially the bigger females on hard and soft lures. A few blackfish lingering around Burns Point on weed and a fairly good run of small school jew above the ferry up to Wardell.
Beaches have been windswept but get out early and there are a few tailor turning up around the northern beaches to Lennox and Broken Head.
Offshore, there have been some snapper pearlies and mixed reefies on the wider grounds.
Awful northerlies at Evans Head all week but a few fish on the more sheltered beaches, mainly bream, whiting and dart. Blackfish pretty good around the walls. I don’t know anyone who fished the headlands this week. Very few boats have ventured offshore but Mick McGillivray’s charter boat The Pirate has been out a couple of times and has scored squire and trag in close and the odd snapper, king and amberjack out wide. Bar is a little shallow at low tide but there’s a bit of a channel through it and Friday morning the wind was still down at 10.30am, so it might be OK for the weekend.
