Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says whiting and flathead are still OK in the lower reaches and quite a few school flatties have been caught right upstream. Some small school jew around Wardell bridge. Blackfish have been OK at Prospect bridge, along the Porpoise Wall and around the ferry approach. Mud crabs still pretty good in the upper reaches with a few sand crabs moving about in the lower reaches. Blackfish around Palmers Channel and around Goodwood wharf and the old ferry approach at Iluka.
Tailor have been good along South Beach among the pilchard schools and the mackerel have come on off the local headlands and Riordans Reef. Good numbers of spotties and the odd Spanish. Good reports out wide of snapper and pearl perch.
A few mackerel also getting about off Evans Head with some boats working east of Kahors and others making the trek up to Riordans. Spotties and the odd Spanish, but live baits have been a little tough to chase down. Some snapper also working in close at times and good reds and pearlies out wide.
The beaches have the odd nice hit of tailor and bream with the whiting still going very well in front of the surf club on live worms. Plenty of bream in the river but they won’t bite in the clear water. A few whiting and flatties further up the river but nothing to write home about.
