Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop reckons the beach fishing has been red-hot for tailor and bream with bag limits of both at times for the better fishos. Best place has been South Ballina but they’re virtually all the way along the beach and there have also been nice whiting available on worms.
Quite a few bream have moved into the river around the rock walls and foreshores and blackfish are really coming on well. All the usual spots are working, including the Prospect bridge approaches, the Porpoise Wall and the Burns Point ferry and bag-limit catches are not unusual. Flatties and small school jew are the main fare for those working upstream from Burns Point to Wardell but there are bream there as well.
Not too many have ventured out too wide offshore but there have been enough snapper on the close reefs to keep you entertained and bring home a feed.
Unless you’ve signed up for the Evans Head Classic, you’ll face big crowds here over the next week as 1000+ fishos get cracking. With that many about, there no doubt will be some great catches but if you’re just after a tranquil place to wet a line, I suggest you go elsewhere!
