Weekly Report 21/11/08

There should be a bit of a fresh pushing down the Richmond River over the next few days which will only concentrate the fish from Wardell to Ballina. There were some good whiting taken on bloodworms over the big tides last week and a few on poppers on the flats and in the creeks. Still plenty of little school jew around, go easy on them, and the odd patch of respectable flathead. Plenty of bait in the river early in the week and unless the fresh is going to be bigger than expected the conditions should only improve with a bit of colour in the water.
Not much happening at Evans Head during the week with some pretty ordinary weather keeping even the diehards at home. Some blackfish around the walls and there should be an improved showing of whiting and bream around the lower river and some bream and school jew off the headlands and beaches, although the tides aren’t real flash for them. Mick McGillivray’s charter boat went out this morning and that’s about the first of the offshore forays for quite a few days. However, there have been some trawlers working close in from Chinamans Beach south so it might well be worth staying in close for a few snapper in the coloured water this weekend.
