16/12/05 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Dec 16, 2005 5:13 pm

Matt at Dave’s Bait Shop says the whiting are good throughout the river with respectable numbers and some decent sized fish mainly at Pimlico and in North Creek. Bloodworms and tube worms the gun baits and high tide is best. School jew and soapies at the RSL on live herrings. Best flathead are up-river from Wardell to Woodburn. Muddies starting to march into a few traps.
Beaches: A few whiting on Seven Mile Beach with the odd snowy bream at Flat Rock and the Bream Hole at Lennox. Flatties along the shallow gutters.
Good snapper on the 48-fathom line on bait and jigs with amberjacks and kingies on jigs and livies. The odd mahi mahi at times as well.
Some nice teraglin on the reefs off Evans Head, especially the wider grounds, where there are also good mahi mahi but they’re fairly shy at the moment. Kingies a bit quiet. The odd nice catch of reds as well.
Beaches have been OK for whiting and some bream, with school jew at Broadwater Beach and the occasional catch of tailor at Boundary Creek and form the headlands but they’re patchy. Some bream in the Evans River as well as whiting and flathead.
