Weekly Reports 17/7/09

Mandy from Dave’s Bait Shop said the main movers are the bream in the lower reaches with plenty of decent ones taking cut bait and gut bait with some reasonable catches on soft plastics and blades. A few jew off the walls, mainly at night on live baits and lures. The odd flathead through the river.
The beaches have plenty of bream with some tailor to the north around Lennox Head. Still a bit bumpy for outside.
Gusty offshore wind and chilly at Evans Head with bugger-all swell inshore but the makings of a lumpy sea out a mile or so. Typical Evans Head Classic weather – the comp starts tonight and runs until next Friday and upwards of 1000 fishos usually attend. If you’re looking for a quiet place to wet a line, try somewhere else. There should be good catches of reds in fairly close when the weather allows and there have been some decent bream up the beach when the sideways sweep backs off. Lack of sand and a vertical dune undercut means there isn’t much room to drive at low tide and no room to park at high tide.
