Weekly Report 31/12/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Dec 31, 2010 2:38 pm

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says the river is in full flood. On the run-in tide around the walls for bream, whiting and flathead with a lot of school jew, with some 12-15kg fish among the throwbacks. The salt water is pushing up to the Porpoise Wall on the top of the tide but once it turns, forget it. Some mud crabs in the lower river but remember that cage traps are banned below the ferry.
The beaches have been turning up plenty of whiting and dart along with school jew.
A few boats should get out tomorrow and the 32 fathom reefs should fish well. Can’t think that the mackerel will inhabit the cloudy water.
The Evans River is still dirty, especially on the falling tide, with the interface between dirty and cleaner water about 1-2km out. Bar has been good with a 15-knot southerly most of today but things have been hectic here and I don’t know who’s caught what.
The odd jewfish up the beach along with whiting and those shovelnose sharks.
Some bream, shovels and whiting around the walls on the high tide and a whole heap of muddy water full of catfish on the run out.
