Weekly Report 17/6/11

Bruce from Dave’s Bait Shop says the river is upside down again but it’s just local runoff this time around, and should clear up in a few days. Best bet is for bream down around the walls, along with a few jewfish from the walls and headlands on hard and soft lures and bait. Still plenty of salmon around and some tailor and the beaches look like settling down for the weekend.
Evans Head had 60 hours of continuous rain last weekend for 248mm, according to a rain gauge just up the street (Ballina had <50mm). But it was all coastal and fell on national park and the runoff is clear and stained brown from the ti-tree. Clear ocean water is coming up to the bridge on the full tide and bream, some good whiting and blackfish have been caught but I don’t know of any jew. Saw some salmon in the waves this morning (Fri) – what’s new?
