Weekly Report 22/7/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jul 22, 2011 3:52 pm

Brett at Ballina Bait and Tackle says the river has been picking up nicely with some quality bream and school jew in the lower end and patches of flathead moving upstream to Pimlico-Wardell.
The beaches had salmon and tailor before the big southerly and the swells came through and there were also bream, dart and whiting.
Best bet this weekend will be off the South Wall fishing into the river for bream, school jew and luderick but weed isn’t readily available so you’ll have to be ultra-careful if you go collecting cabbage.
Best gust at Evans Head today (Fri) was 27 knots around noon and it hasn’t dropped much below 15 knots. Swell around 2.5m in the bay and bigger out past Joggly, tipped to hit 5m Saturday.
Forget the beaches, nobody in their right mind would fish the rocks and to go offshore you’ll need a RAAF Chinook.
A few blackfish working around the walls, some flathead up in the shallows on high tide and some patches of bream in the river.
