Weekly Report 23/12/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Dec 23, 2011 12:38 pm

Squidgy says you won’t get offshore for a few days because the swell . Mackerel off Lennox Point, snapper on the 32 and a few pearlies and the odd king.
The beaches have a few tailor, bream, flathead and a few dart.
There are a million bream in the lower river with crankbaits along the wall getting the best of them. Deeper holes along the wall for some big flathead. Not many crabs up the creeks but a heap of baby bream and flathead. North Creek has whiting around the yabby beds and the weed. Pimlico has a few as well and there are a few on lures downstream of the ferry. Flathead also at Pimlico. No reports of school jew lately.
The beaches at Evans Head have a few more whiting than those further north but with the forecast for swells to hit 3m by Saturday afternoon, there won’t be a lot of joy there. Some tailor and the odd soapie jew as well, with better jew around the rocks. Again, be very wary if the swell does pick up to danger levels.
Offshore there have been some snapper and trag taken on the lead-up to the new moon along with the odd nice jew but there’s also been a whisper or two of mackerel, including a few spotties. Let’s hope they’re still there when the swell goes down.
Whiting and some nice bream in the river with some fair flathead well upstream.
