Brett at Ballina Bait and tackle says good tailor to about 3kg are taking pilchards and cut bait off the South Wall, Spanish mackerel jumping around the North Wall and the bar is bad! A couple of boats braved the bar earlier in the week and caught a few snapper in close on plastics and bait. Water is around 24°.
A few jewies at night around the walls with bream and flatties from the mouth and half-way to Pimlico. Some whiting around Missingham Bridge on the run-up tide.
Mud crabs still scratching around and a few jacks to about 55cm around the rock walls, most on lures.
Water warm and clear at Evans on Friday morning but swell on the bar kept boats at home. Only a handful went out this week with some snapper in close and mackerel down on the South Reef.
A few whiting and bream up the beach with worms getting the best results. Chopper tailor from the beaches and headlands and a few better fish at night on cut bait.
The Evans River has bream, a few whiting, patches of flathead and a few trevally.
