Weekly Report 20/4/12

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 20, 2012 11:50 am

Brett at Ballina Bait and Tackle says the swell has shut down the Ballina bar after quite a few good mackerel came in during the week. Now the focus is on the river with a tiny fresh coming down on the low tide on Thursday, but there are still plenty of bream in lower Emigrant Creek and in the main river from the ferry downstream. Flathead up to about Pimlico and school jew even further upstream.
Swell has stuffed up things at Evans Head, too, with 1.5m cracking over the bar this morning (Fri) even on the high tide. Pity, there have been birds working about 150m out, about where the surf is breaking. Some bream and school jew up the beach before the swell came up but there’s plenty of water movement now. Some tailor and blackfish from the breakwalls and the river has plenty of bream and a few flathead. Dunno where the whiting have gone. River quite dark on the low tide and be careful in the deeper water, I had a bull shark around 4’ long take a hooked bream recently.
