Weekly Report 8/6/12

Brett at Ballina Bait and Tackle says there have been some jewfish to around 17kg on the South Wall on soft plastics, early morning and late afternoon in the rough water. Blackfish are in the dirty water on yabbies around Prospect and Missingham bridges. Bream a bit quiet over the full moon but they should pick up a little this weekend. One or two flatties here and there and also the odd stray mud crab.
Beaches closed out over the week but try the northern beaches over the weekend; access to the southern beaches might be a bit tough.

At Evans Head there’s been a lot of erosion in front of the surf club and about 1m vertical and 3-4m horizontal of sand lost up around Airforce Beach. Vehicle access is still OK but the swells have levelled out the beach and there’s not much in the way of features to fish. Swell back to around 2m in the bay on Friday morning but a lot of grass, sticks and crap in the water.
The Evans River is stained but should be fishable. There should be some good blackfish around the breakwalls but be very careful of the swell when gathering weed around the rocks. – TZ
