Weekly Report 17/10/13

Post by Nicole Penfold » Thu Oct 17, 2013 10:55 am

There's been virtually no offshore fishing due to the strong winds over the last week or so, and these have obviously made the rock fishing difficult as well. There have been a few mulloway around, and a few bream coming from the rocks and break walls for anglers braving the blustery conditions.

Big seas have made beach fishing difficult as well. There has been the odd flathead and bream caught, but it’s been pretty tough.

In the river we’re starting to see mud crabs in North and Emigrant creeks, and there have been some flathead from the mouth of the river to Wardell Bridge. The bigger fish have been taken on live herring and the smaller ones on white pilchards and prawns.

There are also a few school jew behind the CBD at night.

You can get better bream upriver from the Burns Point ferry to Rileys Hill, and most of the better fish have been coming from the rockwalls on prawns and mullet fillets.

We’re also starting to see increased numbers of whiting on the run-up tides, on both baits and surface lures.
