Weekly Report 17/01/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jan 17, 2014 1:56 pm

There hasn’t been much offshore action this week, aside from mahi mahi around the FAD and snapper and pearl perch on the 48s. There are rat kings out there as well. We haven’t seen any mackerel yet but they can’t be far away because water temps jumped another degree in the past week. They’re being caught at Brunswick Heads and Woody Heads so they’ll have to show up here soon.

On the beaches there are plenty of dart and whiting. Anglers are also getting the odd tailor in the afternoons and a few flatties as well. Mullet fillets and bonito are the best baits.

On the break walls anglers are getting bream and a few mulloway.

There are crabs in the river and flatties are still in the lower reaches from Pimlico to the mouth, so not a lot has changed there. There are a few bream in the lower reaches as well, and a few up around Wardell to Rileys.

We’ve had a reasonable week on the run-up tide for the whiting, mostly on worms and yabbies as per usual.

A few jacks are being caught on the bottom half of the run-out tide on the rock walls at all the usual haunts. Be prepared to have a few lures stolen by these red rascals.

The boys have been getting bass on spinnerbaits at Bungawalbin Creek, with darker colours working the best.
