Weekly Report 21/03/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Mar 21, 2014 2:12 pm

Rain has been predicted for the next week, so If you are going to have a fish over the weekend make sure you have a raincoat or umbrella handy. Offshore will be a little lumpy over the weekend but conditions should be fishable as long as the wind doesn't blow too hard. Mackerel and a couple of wahoo have been landed during the week on the close reefs with the bulk of the fish taking live baits. The mahi mahi have gone a little quiet around the FAD with only a few fish landed. The current has slowed up so a few snapper, pearl perch and small kingfish have been caught out on the wider grounds.

The beaches have produced some flathead, whiting, bream and tailor. Worms, pipis, white pilchards and blues have all been popular bait choices.

The lower reaches of the river have produced some blue swimmer crabs recently but this recent drop of rain may slow them up. 2.5 - 4m of water seems to be the ideal depth so concentrate on keeping your dillies in this zone. North Creek has had a few mud crabs along with the main river. The flathead have been a little quiet but it may be worth checking out the sand flats up river from Wardell bridge as the flathead seem to be moving up river. Some good numbers of bream are starting to show up along the rock walls. White pilchards, prawns and hard body lures have all been tempting fish but keep your sinkers fairly light along the walls. The odd mangrove jack has stolen a lure or live bait intended for a Jew or bream so be on your toes when fishing the walls.

Tight lines
