Weekly Report 19/04/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Sat Apr 19, 2014 10:43 am

It looks like we might get a warm and dry Easter this year. Unfortunately the seas are quite large offshore but may settle by Tuesday or Wednesday. The big seas have also made fishing the beaches a little difficult. South Ballina Beach, Shelley and Seven Mile Beaches have all been producing some tailor, bream and flathead. Once the seas settle we should also see a few whiting and dart.

The river has cleaned up nicely and the are still some nice mudcrabs around. The lower reaches of Emigrant and the main river above the ferry have been the pick of the spots. The odd whiting is still taking a beach worm on the run in tide along with some flathead on prawns, white pilchards and soft plastics. The flathead have also been a little better above the ferry but the bream are certainly hugging the rock walls from the mouth of the river to Wardell bridge. Prawns and hardbody lures have both tempted fish. The big seas have brought a few mulloway into the break walls but most fish have been 5-10 kg. The usual baits and lures have been working. The odd tailor and bream has also been taken from the walls on pilchards or mullet fillets.

Tight lines and happy Easter, Brett.
