Report 08/08/14

Saturday should be worth a look in the river with some good numbers of flathead still being caught up river. Wardell bridge to Riley's Hill is still the best section of the river to concentrate on at present. Most anglers reporting white or blue pilchards still being the pick of the baits to use.

Metal blades have been fairly productive for the lure throwers but a few fish have also grabbed some two and three inch soft plastics. A number of quality bream up to 1.4 kg have been caught out on the beaches during the week but there is also some quality fish in both creeks and in the lower reaches of the river. Mullet and prawns have been two of the better baits this week, especially in the river. The odd chopper tailor has been caught on the beaches but conditions have been difficult at times.

The break walls are still producing a few mulloway but should be a much more attractive option for the experienced anglers next week once the southerly winds and big seas kick in. Sunday is looking like the best chance for a fish offshore so check out the close reefs for a few snapper, trag and mulloway and there are still plenty of leatherjackets on the 32's if the bar conditions are not as bad as they have been at times this week.

Tight lines
