Report 16/08/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Sat Aug 16, 2014 9:12 am

The fishing this weekend is looking like a wash out with significant amounts of rain predicted to fall across the state. With many areas in drought this will be a welcome relief and should also improve the fishing in our local area over the next couple of months.

Offshore is looking no good until at least next weekend, but a few of the beaches will be worth a look with mullet or pilchards for the odd tailor and some quality bream. Angels and Seven mile beach should be a couple of the better spots to check. Reports have come in this week of salmon at Yamba and Iluka so it won't be long till we see them here. The break walls have been producing some Jew and bream and should be well worth a look over the next few days with the rough conditions. As usual large soft plastics and squid or mullet for bait will be the way to go.

A number of blackfish are still being caught in the lower reaches at the usual spots. A number of flathead have been caught between Pimlico island and Broadwater during the last few days. Most of the fish are in shallow water at present and white pilchards and prawns have been the best baits. Good luck out there this weekend.

Stay safe and tight lines
