Report 31/08/14

Strong winds are predicted for most of the weekend but at least the sun should be shining. The Richmond River is a lovely coffee color at present and there is more water coming from Lismore and Casino next week. The bottom end of the river will be your best chance to catch a fish or two. Stick with oily and smelly baits such as mullet, pilchards, chicken gut and mullet gut. These baits will help the fish to find them given the poor visibility in the water at present. Live yabbies may also be a good option, particularly for the blackfish and school Jew.

The break walls should produce some mulloway and bream but as usual concentrate your efforts around the changes of tides. The dirty water will probably mean that a few more fish than normal may be caught during the day.

There has been no offshore fishing this week and next week is not looking any better. The large swell has also meant that the beach fishing has been fairly difficult. Mullet, pilchards and squid will be the best baits but you may have to try a couple of the more protected corners to have more of a chance of keeping your baits in place.

Tight lines! Brett
