Report 04/10/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Sat Oct 04, 2014 9:37 am

We have some northerly winds in store for us for the long weekend. The swell will be up on Saturday but Monday is looking like a chance to get offshore at this stage.

With the swell being up, fishing the beaches has been a difficult proposition. The mornings have been the best of the conditions so get out early and home by lunch if you want to avoid that wind. A few flathead, bream and salmon have been taking pilchards and mullet from the beaches.

Salmon, Jew and the odd tailor have been hitting lures and baits from the rocks and break walls. The north wall has been a little more productive but the outside of the wall may be no good if these northerly winds keep up, but this may also mean the inside will be worth a look on the change of tide for a Jew or two.

In the river you will have low tide about mid morning so this will give you two chances at the Jew on the tide changes. 4 inch soft plastics and live baits have been working the best of late. Try the deeper holes along the rock walls for the Jew and the odd larger flathead. Plenty of small flathead are spread out from the mouth to Wardell Bridge. Stick with prawns or white pilchards as they have still been the best of the baits. There is still a few luderick around and Prospect Bridge will be worth checking out during the morning run out tides.

There seems to be plenty of bass in the creeks and while the size is not huge for most of the fish they have been a lot of fun for the anglers chasing them. Try using blades or plastics during the heat of the day and dark colored surface lures late afternoon.

Tight lines. Brett
