Report 7/11/14

Post by subeditor » Fri Nov 07, 2014 10:13 am

This weekend is looking like a great chance for the boaties to finally get offshore. The boat ramps will probably be very busy so leave yourself some extra time to launch and retrieve your boat. Sunday is shaping up as the better day, with some wind still predicted for Saturday.

The warm currents are continuing to push down so it will be worth having a look for a few mahi mahi and snapper on the 32 fathom line. The wider grounds will be worth checking out on Sunday with less wind around. Pearl perch, kingfish, amberjack and the odd snapper should all be good chances in these areas. The usual baits such as pilchards, mullet and squid will all be good choices as live baits have been hard to find at times.

The river has been producing some bream and jacks around the rock walls in the lower reaches and the flathead have been hitting white pilchards and prawns from the mouth of the river to Wardell Bridge. There has been a few whiting and crabs in North Creek, but the better quality crabs have come from Emigrant Creek during the run out tide. The whiting are also showing up in the main river from the mouth to Pimlico island. As usual the run up tide has been the best time and stick with worms or yabbies for bait.

The beaches have been producing some bream, whiting and dart. Worms, pipis and mullet fillets have been the pick of the baits. The better quality bream have been coming from the deeper gutters with a cover of white water. Seven mile and South Ballina have been the pick of the beaches but the weather this weekend should be great so it will be nice to be on any of our beaches this weekend.

Tight lines! Brett.
