Report 28/11/14

Post by subeditor » Fri Nov 28, 2014 10:57 am

Yet another windy weekend on the way. It's not looking great for the offshore boaties once again and the beach fishing will be limited too.

A couple of whiting, bream and chopper tailor have shown up on the beaches during the week. As usual the wind should be at it's lightest early morning so hit the water nice and early to avoid it as much as possible. There have been some school jew coming from the walls but the average size has been disappointing. Squid, mullet and worms have all worked along with some four or five inch soft plastics.

The lower reaches of the river have been producing some whiting and small bream during the run up tide. Live yabbies, worms and prawns have all been good baits for them during the week. The crabs have been slow this week and reports have come in that a number of them have had soft shells. This may indicate they are molting at present and may not be as active as usual. The odd blue swimmer crab has been caught in the lower reaches but most anglers are only catching a handful per trip. Emigrant creek and the main river will probably be the better options this weekend but the wind may dictate where you can and can't try. Flathead and bream seem to be in better numbers from the ferry to Broadwater. Pilchards, mullet and prawns have still been the best bait options, but the run out tide seems to be producing a few more fish at present.

Plenty of bass to be caught between Coraki and Lismore, and the surface lures are still working a treat early morning and late afternoon. This should continue for sometime hopefully. Poppers, walkers and fizzers have all been successful so make sure you have a couple options up your sleeve.

Tight lines! Brett
