Report 5/2/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Feb 05, 2015 1:28 pm

The swell and wind have been up the last few days which will probably rule out any offshore this weekend. It is also going to make the beaches a difficult proposition.

There has still been a few quality whiting taking worms and pippies as well as the odd flathead and some chopper tailor. The tailor have been slightly better late afternoon and into the night. Metal spinners have been tempting a few of the tailor hanging around the headlands but pilchards and mullet have been the best of the baits on the beach.

The smaller tides this week have slowed the fishing in the river a little but things should improve with some bigger tides around the full moon this week.

Mud crabs have been in reasonable numbers in the lower reaches of Emigrant and the main river between the ferry and Broadwater.

The flathead and bream have been biting better on the run up tide on baits such as mullet and pilchards. The discolored water pushing out on the run out tide had also meant that a few nice flathead have been taking hardbody lures in 2-4 meters of water.

Reports are still coming in of bass from Coraki to Lismore. Hardbody lures and spinnerbaits have been the best option due to the dirty water but lipless crank baits such as Jackall TN60 and Imakatsu Cracker Craws will also be a great option due to the poor visibility up there.

Tight lines! Brett.
