Report 5/6/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Jun 05, 2015 2:28 pm

This weekend is looking like the best weather we have had in the last month. The wind may pick up a little on Sunday but is still only predicted to be 5-10 knots.
Plenty of boats heading offshore so the close reefs should get hit and we should see some snapper, trag and jew coming from these areas. There is a little bit of current on the 32 fathom line but this seems to drop off the wider you go. Snapper and flathead on the 32's will be worth targeting and I'm expecting to see some bar cod and blue eye trevalla come from the shelf this weekend.
Bream, flathead and chopper tailor have been caught on most beaches this week. Seven Mile, Angels and South Ballina have been the best of them. Mullet, pilchards and Pippies have all been good baits to try.
The tides are good this weekend to try for jew from the walls and in the lower reaches of the river at night. Lures have been working well on the walls and live baits have been a little better in the river. There are some quality bream in the lower reaches of the river and they seem to be biting better on the run up tide. Prawns and mullet along with hard body lures have all worked well along any of the rock walls.
The flathead have been a little slow in the mornings but have fired up as the day has warmed up. The RSL to Pimlico Island has been the better section of the river to try with pilchards, herring or soft plastics.
The odd mud crab is still being caught in the creeks along with a few more bass and EP's. The run out tide with bright colored lures has been the best bet.

Tight lines! Brett.
