Report 12/6/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Jun 12, 2015 2:58 pm

Strong southerly winds are predicted for Saturday along with the odd shower. Sunday and Monday should be much nicer days with a drop in the wind and the sun coming out.
Offshore fishing is a chance for Monday and with the drop in the current it should be much easier on the 32 and 48 fathom lines to fish. A few snapper and jew have come from the close reefs and a real mixed bag out wider, with snapper, pearl perch, flathead, kingfish, amberjack and tusk fish all being landed last week. Please be aware that after the long weekend the FAD is being removed during the whale migration and will be put back in place later in the year.
The beaches have been a little quiet with just the odd flathead and a few bream and tailor being landed. Pilchards, mullet and pippies have all been good bait options. The rough conditions should see a few jew and bream come from the break walls this weekend. A number of quality fish have been landed this week using live or dead baits such as mullet and squid. The cold weather has slowed the flathead up, and most of them have been caught above the ferry in less than two meters of water. Prawns and pilchards have been the best baits along with some bright colored soft plastics.
Good numbers of bass have been showing up between Wardell and Woodburn. Blades, plastics and spinnerbaits have all worked at different parts of the tide. Please remember to have your fishing licenses up to date as officers will certainly be out this weekend checking.

Tight lines,
Brett.
