Report 20/8/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Aug 20, 2015 11:23 am

An overcast and windy weekend has been predicted and with the increase in the swell it is not looking like much offshore fishing will be happening.
The swell is going to make fishing the beaches a little difficult but fresh mullet and pipis have tempted some nice quality bream and tarwhine during the week. The odd whiting and some reasonable dart have also come from some of the beaches on live worms and pipis. Angels, Boulders and South Ballina have all been fairly productive this week.
The run in tide has still been bringing some quality bream into the lower reaches of the river. Fresh mullet and prawns have been the best of the baits this week. Curl tail grubs in Squidgies and Z-Man plastics have also been working well.
The flathead have been a little inconsistent this week but the white or blue pilchards have still managed to tempt a few fish. The better numbers of fish seem to be in about 2-4 meters of water, and have been biting a little better on the run out tide. If the wind picks up in the afternoons it may be worth checking out North or Emigrant creeks.
There has been a few school jew spread throughout the river in the deeper holes. As usual the change of tides has been the best time to target them. Live bait has been hard to get so try some fresh mullet, squid or large soft plastics as an alternative.
There is still plenty of luderick around Prospect Bridge and behind the CBD, but they have been a little quiet up around the ferry.

Tight lines. Brett.
