23/6/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jun 23, 2006 11:56 am

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop says the jewfish have been good around the walls and Town Reach all week. Plenty of fish up to 15kg with some monsters around the walls on hard and soft lures, with 26.1kg gilled and gutted the week’s best. A few bream around the walls and lower reaches but the tailor seem to have gone a bit quiet apart from a few choppers. Blackfish seem to have gone from North Creek but there are a few along the Porpoise Wall. Not much action from outside, what with the wind and rain.
It’s a similar story at Evans Head with showers and squalls all week and a very shallow bar with waves churning up the sand. Quite a few tailor of various sizes in the bay with best results from both walls. Size seems to vary from day to day with pesky choppers some days and other times some quality fish. And it should be worth a throw for a jewfish with all those tailor and bait schools around. River still has plenty of bream and the odd nice whiting but you’re better off fishing the falling tide in the day as the high remains very clear.
