Weekly Report 6/6/08

We have the Dave Irvine snapper catch, photograph and release comp this weekend with an expected 350 anglers ready to chuck soft plastics. All fish to be released after photographing. Interesting to see the new range of release weights to get the fish back to a reasonable depth quickly. There have been some good reds around in shallow and deep water with The Patch turning up good fish with this week’s best going 7.2kg. Still plenty of cobia north-east of the lighthouse with the odd mackerel coming form the northern reefs.
Estuaries will fish well after the wet, with a rising tide essential. Flathead, bream and a few whiting likely.
Beach gutters particularly those close to estuary mouths, also turning up good bream, tailor and on the night tide, a jewfish is almost guaranteed.
