Weekly Report 30/10/13

We’re doing well on bream at the moment, and the jew are starting to come back. Blackfish numbers have pretty much run dry. Most anglers no longer fish for them now.

We’re starting to get a run of whiting in the shallower creeks. Anglers are having good success chasing them on poppers.

No rain has made life tough for some Aussie natives, notably bass. They are having a hard time getting to where they usually are at this time of year, so we’re praying for rain.

On the beaches and outside we’re getting good runs of trag jew, and snapper and pearlies are featuring in catches as well. The Spanish mackerel have arrived early, and more fish are trickling in as the season progresses.

We haven’t heard much about billfish getting caught so far, but the odd tuna is getting knuckled down. A few yellowfin and southern bluefin are still around, and we’re picking up good numbers of bonito when the pros let us get to them.

There are plenty of kingfish and samsonfish if you go out wide. The action will hot up as they prepare to spawn.

We’ve had a late run of salmon, which is great. Lot of the surfers are spotting big balls of these hard-fighting fish. The netters went hard on the salmon so this late run is very welcome.
