For those fishing outside there are a few blue marlin and mahi mahi (dolphinfish) out at the shelf. The water is starting to improve, and it’s looking pretty good there at the moment. There is also the odd mahi mahi starting to get around the FAD.

On the inshore reefs there are a few nice samsonfish around Split Solitary and out around the lighthouse. There are some kingfish around as well, and both the kinds and samsons are readily taking livebait.

Round the headlands there are some good mulloway being taken off the rocks. Low tide or the first of the run-up tide is fishing well, with both soft plastics and hardbodies taking their share.

On the beaches we’re having a really good run of whiting at the moment, and also some nice bream and dart. Low tide gutters seem to be the best option for whiting at the moment.

In the estuaries anglers are getting some nice whiting on poppers. There are also a few really good flathead in the lower reaches being caught on soft plastics. It’s worth having a look around the railway bridge and highway bridge chasing jew on the tide changes. A few nice schoolies have been caught there of late.

If you have a canoe or kayak, this should be a good weekend for you, as there are good bass in the upper reaches. With the warm weather and with the nice freshes we’ve had, conditions are ideal for bass.
