Weekly Report 04/12/13

On the outside front the weather hasn’t been the best. However, when the gamefishing boys have been able to get out, they’ve been getting into some action. Earlier this week Glen Booth tagged a 150kg blue marlin and lost another good fish.

Bottom fishing has been a bit patchy, but those anglers fishing deeper water (around 80m) have been getting trag and pearl perch. There are also a few kingfish up around the lighthouse. Livebaits are still the best option for kingies.

Round the headlands there are still a few school jew getting around, plus a few nice bream.

On the beaches some really nice whiting are still being caught, and beachworms still seem to be the best bait. With that high tide of a night, it’s also worth soaking a worm or a squid after dark for a mulloway if you find a nice gutter.

In the estuaries there are some really nice whiting in the lower end, with good specimens being caught on poppers. There are also a few quality flathead taking soft plastics.

In the upper reaches, anglers fishing from kayaks and canoes have been getting some quality bass. Rain has done the world of good, with nice flows getting the bass fired up.
