Weekly Report 11/04/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Apr 11, 2014 1:53 pm

We’re right in the middle of best mackerel season in years, and other pelagics are firing as well. There are lots of northern bluefin mixed in plus a sprinkling of yellowfin. Most of the inshore reefs are fishing really well. The only problem is getting livebait; it’s pretty patchy.

Some nice snapper to 8kg are still being caught, although most anglers are focusing their attention on mackerel. There are a few kingfish being caught as well, but they’re only middle-sized. There’s also the odd cobia around.

Out at the shelf anglers are getting blues, blacks and stripes, along with yellowfin tuna and lots of dolphinfish.

On the beaches a few big tailor are being caught; one topped the scales at 9.6kg. There are also a few mulloway, tailor, bream and the odd whiting.

The estuaries are still fishing pretty well for the likes of flathead, jacks and trevally.

A few bass are still being caught in the fresh.
