The recent rains and the subsequent flush of freshwater has been good for the lower systems. We’re getting runs of good jewfish in the lower reaches and some quality bream getting around with them. We’re seeing good runs of mullet as well. Whenever there’s a tide changes there’s good amounts of bait and the jewfish home in on it.

Around the rock walls anglers have been getting some good bream. If the clarity on the top of the tides is good the blackfish are usually on the chew as well. Sometimes it can be hard to find clear water after big rains but it’s OK at the moment.

Off the beachs we’re seeing strong runs of tailor up around 1-1.5kg, with the odd 3kg fish thrown in. The salmon pretty thick this year compared to last year, which is great.

There’s still the odd jewfish there to be caught with the dirty water on the top of the tide. We’ve been getting most of ours around Mylestom area up along the beaches there. You pick up a few up along the main beach as well in Coffs. Beach anglers are getting the odd whiting as well on worms and yabbies.

The rocks are starting to fire up, with good catches of drummer. In recent weeks the drummer were in dribs and drabs, but the action has picked up just in the last couple of days. You can expect a groper or two when chasing drummer. Favourite baits are prawns, cunje, small purple crabs and a little green crabs if you can find them.

Offshore there’s not much to report as the rain brought a fair bit of wind along with it. The only reports are of a few tuna and the odd snapper.
