Report 10/10/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Oct 10, 2014 2:48 pm

Offshore there are plenty of snapper still around. There are also tailor, and sporadic schools of tuna. Some striped marlin are being caught out wider.

Anglers are tangling with some half decent kingfish and a few samsons and amberjack around on the deeper reefs and the island washes. There are lots of rat kingies in closer.

In the estuaries there are lots of school jew; unfortunately they seem to be nearly all undersize. There are plenty of flathead around as well, with heaps in the 40-50cm range and just the odd bigger one. Whiting are starting to turn on in the estuaries too, and surface lures are starting to work well for them already.

Bass are hard to pin down at the moment. There are still a lot of them down low in the river systems; they’re spread right out from down in the brackish water to right up in the higher reaches.

Trout fishing is back on, and there have been some good captures and really good days interspersed with poor days.
